Summer activities in la Plagne

We're all familiar with La Plagne during the winter season, but did you know that in summer, the mountain has just as much to offer ? La Plagne has a gigantic playground where you can enjoy a whole host of activities. From the beginning of July to the end of August, you can enjoy the mountains in ways other than on skis, and you really won't be disappointed. If you're looking for something to do on your own, with family or friends, this article is for you.
 
  • The 6000D
This legendary trail is eagerly awaited by runners. With a vertical drop of 3,400m and a course of 69km, this race is totally unique. Participants will start the race at Aime train station, climb to the summit of Bellecôte, then descend to Montchavin-les-Coches and finish along the Isère River to finish at Aime train station. This year, the race will take place on Saturday 29 July at 5.00 am. Take part or come and cheer on the runners on this legendary day. Other races are also being organised throughout the weekend, for young and old, the sporty and the less sporty alike:
  • The 6000D relay race. For the first time, you can take part in this 3-person relay race. The course is predefined with 3 sections (one for each runner) and a compulsory baton change.
  • The 6D Marathon. This is a marathon on mountain trails. You'll have to cover 43km and climb 2100m. The route will start at Aime train station, pass by the Lac des Blanchets and finally reach the Isère and Aime train station.
  • The 6D lacs. This 30km route, with a 1500m vertical drop, will follow the route of the 6000D with a junction at Dérochoir to head towards Plan Bois and climb back up to Arpette to follow the 6000D route to Plagne Bellecôte.
  • The 6Discovery. This 11km trail will start at the Plagne center snow front and head to Bellecôte via Plagne Villages before returning to Plagne center via Dou du Praz and then Lac Vert and Aime 2000.
  • The 6D Bob. This unusual race will take place on the Olympic bobsleigh track. Runners will climb the track from the bottom to the top on an average gradient of 8.2% with a maximum of 14% over 1.5km.
  • The 6D Kids. This is a race for children. Loops of between 500m and 3000m will be completed on the Plagne center snow front. The distance is determined by the age of the child.
  • The 6D adventure. This is an orienteering race organised in the town of Aime for children aged from 6 to 16 (accompanied by an adult). You'll have to answer the riddles left along the way.

  • The Super 8
This is no ordinary mountain bike race, reserved for elite riders and experienced mountain bike enthusiasts. Riders will take so-called "secret" trails to discover La Plagne in a whole new way. They'll be able to make the most of all the mountain biking has to offer, from ridgelines and enduro descents to forest climbs. This race will undoubtedly be unforgettable for participants, with its unusual trails and breathtaking panoramas. Click here to register.
 
  • Hiking
La Plagne is the ideal place for hiking in the mountains. With sunny days and mild temperatures, hiking is a real pleasure. Of course, always bring a bottle of water, good walking shoes and a snack.   • Mountain biking
Whether on foot or on a bike, La Plagne has miles of trails to explore. So don't hesitate to bring your own equipment or hire it to explore the mountain. During the summer, some ski lifts are open. Lift passes are available directly from the ski passes offices. For mountain bikers, you can take a seat on a chairlift with your bike. That way, you'll enjoy the ride up. You can also cycle from Aime to La Plagne. The famous ascent to La Plagne has 21 bends and is a real challenge to complete.
 
  • Via ferrata
If you're not familiar with this concept, you will be impressed. It's a perfect blend of hiking and climbing. Discover the mountains vertically on the "Bourte" via ferrata at La Plagne. Access is from the Belle Plagne snow front. Intermediate level, you will have to cross cables, ladders, ramps, a monkey bridge and 2 zip lines. At the beginning of the Via Ferrata, you'll also find a training area so you can get ready for this new challenge. Special equipment is mandatory, and can be hired from the sports shops in the resort.
 
  • The Versants leisure centre
The Versants leisure centre is located between Aime and Bourg-Saint-Maurice on the RN90 road at Le Gothard. Here you'll find a wide range of activities for all the family:
  • Adventure course
  • Accro bungee
  • Aquabulles and pedalokids
  • Xtrem Jump
  • Kayak and paddle
The leisure centre is open every day in July and August. Activities are subject to a charge and may be booked in advance.
 
  • Mountain cart
The mountain cart is a descent of the Colorado track in a 4-wheel kart. From Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 5.30pm, take the Colorado chairlift and go down the piste in a go-kart, at medium or high speed. The descent is 1585m long with a 300m vertical drop. Meet up at the Colorado chairlift reception chalet, where equipment will be provided before you start your descent.




Winter in La Plagne is a busy time, but summer is wonderful. July and August are punctuated by various events in the resort. The tourist office also offers free activities on the Plagne centre snow front. The landscape is different, but just as impressive in summer as in winter.
