Hiking in La Plagne

Mountain holidays are not necessarily synonymous with downhill skiing. Hiking in the mountains is an exciting way to spend quality time in nature and discover breathtaking snowy landscapes. In this article, find out which hiking trails to explore in the La Plagne area.

  • The Lovatière loop

Start: Aime 2000 / Distance: 2.6km
This hike starts from the Club MMV hotel in Aime 2000. A path from the hotel will take you to Plagne 1800. On the way down you can stop at the green lake, which offers a magnificent view of Mont Blanc. Then continue downhill to reach the snow front of Plagne 1800. Once you have reached the snow front, you walk up the village of Plagne 1800 to reach the bank machine. From this point you will find signs indicating the route to follow to return to Plagne Centre.
The hike is accessible from Plagne Centre or Plagne 1800 depending on where you live.

  • The Cavard loop
Start : Plagne 1800 / Distance 2km
The start of this hike is at the bottom of the car park opposite to the Loup Blanc restaurant, at the exit of Plagne 1800. At the end of the car park, you will see the start of the path that will take you to the Cavard clearing. This descent takes about 30 minutes. Then follow the left bank of the Arc stream to reach the start of the bobsleigh run. Then, you have two options to reach the villages. The first is to take the shuttle bus to Plagne Centre or to retrace your steps to return to the start of the hike in Plagne 1800.

  • The Dou du Praz loop
Start : Plagne Centre / Distance : 6km
For this hike, the departure is in Plagne Centre, at the entrance of the resort, just behind the petrol station located at the Bergerie car park. The start of the walk takes place in the forest, in the middle of snow-covered trees. The arrival at the Dou du Praz offers an unobstructed view of the Mont Blanc and the various villages that make up the resort of La Plagne. In addition, high altitude chalets are open every day to take a break in the sun. For the descent, it is done on the Bellecôte side.
Like the Lovatière loop, this hike can also be done in the Bellecôte - Plagne Centre direction. In this direction, you will take the path behind the Chalet des Colosses, on the Plagne Bellecôte snow front.

  • The Frasses loop
Start : Bellecote / Distance : 12km
This hike is recommended for the most experienced walkers. Indeed, the Frasses loop is a round trip between Plagne Bellecote and Montchavin. The departure is opposite the car park at the "Les Frasses" shuttle bus stop in Bellecote. Cross the road and go straight on for about 500m until you reach a crow's foot. You will see the signposted path "Les Frasses et Plan Bois" to start the hike. Allow about 1h30 to reach Plan Bois. On arrival, enjoy a break in the mountain chalets. Note that the return to Bellecote is only on foot, there is no shuttle between Montchavin / Les Coches / Plan Bois and Plagne Bellecote.

This activity does require some preparation. Be equipped with winter clothes or a ski suit to protect you from the cold. In addition to clothing, it is essential to wear après-ski or shoes adapted to the snow. This will prevent you from getting cold feet and also from slipping on the hiking trails.
